Intake & Counseling Initiative

This Initiative is designed to deliver comprehensive workshops and training seminars to a broad range of stakeholders, including:

  • The general public and members of protected classes
  • Housing providers: realtors, mortgage lenders, developers, property owners and managers, insurance agents, appraisers, advertisers, and public housing authoriti

This Initiative is designed to deliver comprehensive workshops and training seminars to a broad range of stakeholders, including:

  • The general public and members of protected classes
  • Housing providers: realtors, mortgage lenders, developers, property owners and managers, insurance agents, appraisers, advertisers, and public housing authorities
  • Attorneys and local jurisdictions
  • Community-based and faith-based organizations


The primary objective of this Initiative is to ensure that all participants have access to the most current information necessary to achieve full compliance with federal, state, and local Fair Housing laws.


As part of its mandate, Metro provides:

  • Educational Resources: Development and distribution of customized Fair Housing materials, including newsletters, brochures, flyers, posters, and promotional items
  • Technical Assistance: Guidance in drafting and implementing fair housing policies, ordinances, and procedures
  • Best Practices Identification: Research and dissemination of effective strategies that promote equal and open access to housing opportunities across communities
  • Support for Jurisdictions: Assistance to local governments and public housing authorities in fulfilling their obligations to affirmatively further fair housing (AFFH)

Intake & Counseling Initiative

The Housing Discrimination HELP LINE provides comprehensive support to residents seeking fair and equitable housing opportunities. Services include:

  • Complaint Intake: Structured intake hours to receive and process housing discrimination and related complaints
  • Information & Referral: Access to resource materials and referral services tailore

The Housing Discrimination HELP LINE provides comprehensive support to residents seeking fair and equitable housing opportunities. Services include:

  • Complaint Intake: Structured intake hours to receive and process housing discrimination and related complaints
  • Information & Referral: Access to resource materials and referral services tailored to individual needs
  • Counseling Services: Both group and individual counseling sessions designed to address housing needs


Metro is a federally approved Housing Counseling Agency, recognized for compliance with national standards governing local housing counseling programs. All services are offered free of charge to participants.


Our Certified Housing Counselor delivers specialized guidance in:

  • Rental counseling
  • Financial management and budget counseling
  • Pre-purchase counseling, including Certified Homebuyer Education Workshops

This Initiative is designed to ensure compliance with Fair Housing laws. Its primary functions include:

  • Testing and Investigation: Conducting complaint-based and systematic testing of alleged Fair Housing violations.
  • Prevention and Elimination: Identifying, addressing, and working to eliminate discriminatory housing practices that restrict

  • Prevention and Elimination: Identifying, addressing, and working to eliminate discriminatory housing practices that restrict equal access to housing opportunities.
  • Enforcement of Meritorious Claims: Pursuing enforcement actions in cases where violations are substantiated, thereby strengthening accountability and promoting fair housing standards.


The initiative is designed to safeguard the rights of residents, promote equitable housing practices, and uphold the principles of the Fair Housing Act by ensuring that all individuals have access to housing free from discrimination.
